Prior to today’s match, the New York Red Bulls presented all-time MLS leading goalscorer, U.S. National Team legend and LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan a retirement gift. Donovan will end his career following the conclusion of the MLS season.

The Red Bulls were aware of the Galaxy midfielder’s desire to travel across the globe after his retirement. In this spirit, New York head coach Mike Petke and former Everton teammate and Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill presented Donovan a Tiffany’s Compass with the engraving “Let this compass guide you on your travels – New York Red Bulls.”

In addition, the club will give Donovan an all-expenses paid week-long trip to New York City, including:

  • Tandem Skydive with Red Bull Air Force
  • Helicopter tour of New York
  • Broadway shows, restaurant reservations, game tickets, tours, and other events Donovan is interested in

Heading into Sunday’s match-up, Donovan, a three-time World Cup veteran, had 143 goals in 329 appearances. It was the 17th time he faced off against New York – a team he previously scored nine goals and four assists against.
