#MetroMonday is a weekly blast from 19 seasons of soccer past.
1996 - An ode to the MetroStars original Golden Boot Winner, Giovanni Savarese.

As we congratulate 2014 MLS Golden Boot Winner and all time single-season scoring leader, Bradley Wright-Phillips on his 27-goal season, we thought it would be an appropriate day to pay homage to a Metro original who once led the club in goals scored.

In 1996, Giovanni Savarese led all metros with 13 goals scored in the club's innagural season. Savarese also scored the first eight goals in club history.

From 1996 to 1998, Savarese led the club in scoring, with 41 goals in 85 regular-season appearances, placing him third on the all time list behind Thierry Henry and Juan Pablo Angel.
