Last weekend, the U-14s were the lone New York Red Bulls Academy team in action while the other age groups were off. Next weekend on Saturday Oct. 17, the U-18s, U-16s and U-14s will be back in action against Players Development Academy in Somerset, N.J., while the U-12s travel to Connecticut to take on Oakwood SC.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (3) vs. DC United (1)

New York Red Bulls U-14 improved to 6-0-1 on the season with a win against rivals D.C. United at the Red Bulls Training Facility, 3-1.

The Red Bulls U-14s opened the scoring in the 4th minute when midfielder Aziel Jackson picked up a loose ball inside the penalty box and neatly finished into the lower left-hand corner of the goal. New York came close to doubling the lead on several occasions as the team pressure in the opening minutes of the game caused problems for D.C. United.

However, D.C. equalized in the 15th minute when a blast from 25-yards out eluded goalkeeper Alex Bobocea. The game came alive as each team nearly took the lead. For the second consecutive game, forward Scotty Taylor scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. In the 38th minute, Taylor received a pass from Kejiel Watt, swiveled around to lose his defender and curled a right-footed shot into the top-left corner of the goal from 12-yards out.

In the second half, United pushed for the equalizer, but defenders Salvador Pliego and substitute Lucas Santos stopped several D.C. attacks. In the 72nd minute, forward Dylan Sullivan headed in a Jackson corner kick at the back post to seal the victory.

“The team approach to start the game was excellent as we were focused and determined on each play,” Man of the Match Aziel Jackson said. “We should have probably been up by several goals at the half. But in the second half we did not do as well, but still found a way to get the result.”
