COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: Dax McCarty closes in on Metro history

After a successful 2015 season, Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty nears multiple historic franchise records. The midfielder is 21 starts shy from tying Mike Petke’s club record of 158 games started and is 27 appearances from equaling Petke’s 169 games played. McCarty has played 142 games, including 137 starts, in five seasons with New York.

The captain is second in club history with minutes played (12,113), eighth in assists (22) and is fourth in game-winning goals (8).

McCarty ended 2015 with 10 points, including one goal and eight assists. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, the captain tallied the club’s lone goal in the Eastern Conference Semifinals first leg against rival D.C. United. By the end of the year, McCarty was honored as a 2015 MLS All-Star starter and was named to the MLS Best XI.
