INJURY UPDATE: News on Gideon Baah, Gonzalo Veron, and Ronald Zubar -

HANOVER, N.J. – Saturday night’s win had the New York Red Bulls feeling good about the trajectory of their season, but Wednesday afternoon brought about some sobering news.

After sustaining what appeared to be hamstring knocks in their matchup with the Houston Dynamo, Jesse Marsch revealed that Gonzalo Veron, Gideon Baah, and Ronald Zubar have all been sidelined with the head coach has labeled as “significant” injuries.

“They’re all significant, so it’s more week-to-week than day-to-day,” Marsch said. “If we were playing this weekend, they wouldn’t be available. We’ll just see how we get through next week and then eventually evaluate where we are from there. They’re not so significant that we feel they’ll be gone for major amounts of time, but it’s week-to-week at this point.”

New York managed to pick up their first three points of the season, but it came at a great cost as the squad now find themselves depleted throughout the lineup. However, the early bye week gives the team a chance to rest up their injuries, as they would not be eligible to return had the Red Bulls been scheduled to play this coming weekend.

“Maybe,” Marsch said when asked if one of the three injured could be ready for the New England Revolution match on April 1. “If I were to guess, I’d say Ronald, but I’m not sure. We’ll see.”

The defense will certainly need to be addressed as two key pieces in the middle of New York’s backline are now missing, but the loss of Veron is particularly troubling to Marsch.

“It’s the same thing, so it’s a re-injury,” Marsch stated. “As a coach, I’m frustrated that I put him in a position to re-injure himself with the same thing.”

The Argentine had just made his season debut on Saturday night after missing the team’s first three game’s of the season with the same hamstring injury, the first suffered in New York’s preseason finale against the Jacksonville Armada.

Now, there is little left to do but pick up the pieces and begin the rehab process once again.

“It’s unfortunate for Gonzalo more than anything,” Marsch added. “We’ll miss him because he provides something, and I certainly thought he had a good start to [Saturday’s] game. That’s whom I feel for more than anybody is Gonzalo just because he’s really established himself with our team, so it’s unfortunate, the timing of the injury.

“It’s unfortunate, but we’ll get him healthy and get him back and pick it up where he left off."
