GIACOMETTI: Red Bulls not taking struggling Revs lightly -

HANOVER, N.J. – It’s been a rough start to the season for the New England Revolution.

Much like the New York Red Bulls had endured prior to their dramatic 4-3 win, the Revs find themselves struggling on both sides of the ball. Conceding seven times while scoring just four, New England currently stands without a win to their name through four matches.

Sure, there may be some early season question marks surrounding the Revs, but the Red Bulls won’t be taking their opposition lightly despite their slow start out of the gate.

“It’s hard to judge a team off of that,” defender Connor Lade told NewYorkRedBulls.com. “If you look at us coming into our last game, we weren’t in our best form either, but then we scored four goals. On any given day, a team can snap out of it, so we’re going to go in there preparing as if they’re in top form. We know they have a talented team and guys that can really hurt you.”

Aside from their three-goal performance to open the season, New England’s offense has been particularly quiet, netting just a single goal scored in their last three matches. And while their defensive performances have left something to be desired, their relative impotence in the attacking third comes as more of a surprise, given the weapons they boast in their arsenal.

Offensive talents such as Diego Fagundez, Lee Nguyen, Teal Bunbury, Charlie Davies and former Red Bull Juan Agudelo lead the charge for the Revs, yet the goal scoring production simply has not net befallen this talented attacking core in 2016.

Still, the season remains quite young, and opportunities to right the ship are plentiful. A team just two seasons removed from a run to the MLS Cup Final, the Revs are not to be underestimated, a message that head coach Jesse Marsch was quick to emphasize.

“Like us, they’re just trying to get their form underneath them,” he said. “We certainly know that they’re a very dangerous team, a very good team. Just because they haven’t been scoring, we don’t take that lightly. We don’t want to be the team they open the gates on. We’ll make sure that defensively we’re hard to play against and we feel strongly that we’ll be able to find opportunities and put them away.”
