MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls 0, Sporting Kansas City 2

HARRISON, N.J. (April 9, 2016) - The New York Red Bulls fell to Sporting Kansas City, 2-0, on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena. Sporting’s Benny Feilhaber scored in the 17th minute and Dom Dwyer doubled the lead in the 60th minute.


New York is now 1-4-0 on the season, and 20-20-13 all-time in the regular season against Kansas City. The Red Bulls are 11-6-8 at home against SKC.


The visitors capitalized on a counter attack in the 17th minute to take the lead. Zusi sprinted down the right side and delivered a pass to the open Feilhaber who buried his shot into the back of the net.


New York’s best chance of the half came in the dying seconds when Sacha Kljestan teed up Sean Davis. The midfielder, making his first start of the season, ripped his shot off the post.


Kansas City doubled the lead in the 60th minute, thanks to a long-throw from second half substitute Saad Abdul-Salaam. The defender’s throw in found Dwyer in the box, who bodied out Chris Duvall, turned and finished the chance.


Two minutes later, New York had a chance to pull one back when the referee awarded the Red Bulls a penalty kick after Ike Opara was called for a handball in the box. Bradley Wright-Phillips stepped up and took his attempt to the keeper’s right, but KC ‘keeper Tim Melia guessed correctly and made a diving save. Melia finished the match with six saves.


The Red Bulls finished with 64 percent of the possession, and outshot SKC, 22-7.


Luis Robles played a complete 90 minutes for the 111th consecutive match. Robles is now just one full game played behind Kevin Hartman for the overall MLS record of consecutive games started with 90 minutes played.


Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty made his 147th appearance for New York, surpassing Carlos Mendes for sole possession of third-most appearances in club history.


Red Bull Arena was fully activated to support Autism Awareness Night, including a dedicated Quiet Zone to provide those in the Autism community with a sensory friendly and judgment free environment to enjoy the match.


The Red Bulls partnered with Autism Speaks, the world's leading Autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a possible cure for Autism.


Next week, the Red Bulls hit the road to take on the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, April 13, at Avaya Stadium (10:30 p.m. ET). The Red Bulls then play away at Colorado on Saturday, April 13 (9 p.m. ET) before returning home to host Orlando City on Sunday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
