USL MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II 4, Bethlehem Steel 0

HARRISON, N.J. (April 10, 2016) ā€“ New York Red Bulls II won its second game of the season against Bethlehem Steel FC, 4-0, on Sunday night at Red Bull Arena. A Bethlehem own goal opened the scoring in the first minute and Alex Muyl doubled the lead in the fourth minute. Anatole Abang added the third goal in the 41st minute and Derrick Etienne Jr. finished off the scoring with the fourth goal in the 71st minute.

With the win, Red Bulls II improves to 2-0-1 on the season. New York has opened the season unbeaten through three games for the first time in their two seasons, and currently sit atop the USL Eastern Conference table.

New York wasted no time getting on the board. Ten seconds in, Derrick Etienne Jr. swung in a cross, which Steel FC defender Josh Yaro deflected into his own net.

Three minutes later, Etienne Jr. created another goal for New York. Running down the right side, the midfielder spotted Muyl open at the top of the box, delivered a square ball which Muyl blasted into the back of the net.

Bethlehem had an opportunity to get back in the game when Ryan Meara tripped up Fabian Herbers in the box in the 19th minute. Leo Fernandez stepped up to the spot to take the penalty and Meara dove to his left and made the save.

Abang tripled the lead on a play that started with Etienne Jr. The 19-year-old Homegrown Player was tripped up in the midfield and the referee granted him advantage. Etienne Jr. passed off to Brandon Allen on the right side, who delivered a low-driven cross for Abang to tap in at the back post.

New York did not let up in the second half, with Etienne Jr. scoring his first goal of the season. Junior Flemmings, playing in his second game for NYRB II, delivered a through ball to Etienne Jr. Bethlehem goalkeeper John McCarthy charged and the Haitian youth international coolly chipped the onrushing goalkeeper to extend New Yorkā€™s lead to four.

New York Red Bulls II return to Red Bull Arena next weekend on Sunday, April 17 against Rochester Rhinos at 4 p.m.
