GIACOMETTI: Red Bulls "in this together" as McCarty and co. look to end skid vs. Orlando City

HANOVER, N.J. – The hard work continued for New York Red Bulls on Wednesday morning.

While results have been hard to come by, the squad remained upbeat and lively in another constructive training session. Previously injured players continue to work their way back onto the pitch, and there is reason to feel positive about the team’s upcoming match on Sunday night.

“It’s a tough stretch for us right now, but we haven’t lost that much confidence,” captain Dax McCarty said. “There are certainly areas where we can improve. It’s not just one specific thing; it’s all aspects of our game that we can improve on right now.”

On both sides of the ball, the Red Bulls have had their struggles, bagging just five goals while conceding 15 through their first seven games. Still, the Red Bulls refuse to their drop heads, preaching faith in the process that led them to a Supporters’ Shield in 2015.

“Soccer is a pretty simple game; you have to score goals and you can’t concede any if you want to be successful,” McCarty added. “We know we’re capable of turning this thing around. We’re not pointing fingers, we’re not blaming individuals; we’re in this together.”

Dropping both games of their recent road trip, head coach Jesse Marsch acknowledged that the lack of results have been tough to swallow, but showed pride in his team’s resolve in a tough environment.

“We fought hard, we dug in, and the elements were brutal,” head coach Jesse Marsch said of the team’s match in Colorado. “We’ve had some brutal results, so it puts you in a desperate from of mind. But we’ve come out this week and had two really good days of training.”

In a losing effort at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Red Bulls managed to carve out some opportunities, notching their first goal since a 4-3 win over the Houston Dynamo on March 19. Still, a crucial road point evaded their grasp come the final whistle.

Still striving for their second win of the year, Marsch remains steadfast in his approach, and exuded optimism as the team returns to Red Bull Arena.

“The guys worked too hard, they work too hard not to be a good team,” he added. “I keep saying that it’s only a matter of time, and I continue to believe. I am trying to motivate them every day to understand how to help get us out of this, how to dig us out. In some ways, it comes down to just pure work and then making breaks. The process at which these guys come to work every day is fantastic and I couldn’t ask for more on that end.”
