ACADEMY UPDATE: Red Bulls complete five-game weekend sweep -

The New York Red Bulls academy won all five matches last weekend in a successful 5-0-0 sweep. The U-13s were the only age group not in action.


The Red Bulls U-18 and U-16 teams travelled north to face Montreal Impact, while the U-14s and U-12s stayed local to take on Met Oval and NJCSA.

MONTREAL (April 24, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-18 handed Montreal Impact their first home defeat of the season with a oneā€“zero win on Sunday afternoon at Caserne Letournex.


ā€œAfter a good week of training and studying Montreal, we came to the game well prepared and with lots of energy,ā€ Man of the Match Samad Bouthong said. ā€œIt was great that we scored first, but even better that we were able to stay composed and finish the game on top.ā€


Samad Bouthong scored the only goal of the game on the twenty-minute mark after a swift Red Bulls counter attack. The Red Bulls broke quickly through Barry Sharifi who did well to open up space for himself before playing a measured pass through for Bouthong to run through and finish.


The Red Bulls would go close to adding number two in the second half through Ryan Mingachos who shot from inside the area narrowly went wide.


The Red Bulls defense held firm to secure their ninth shutout of the season.

New York Red Bulls U-16 (4) at Montreal Impact U-16 (3)

MONTREAL (April 24, 2016) ā€“ New York Red Bulls U-16 defeated Montreal Impact U-16 on the road in Montreal, 4-3.


New York jumped ahead early, thanks to Ben Mines, only to be cancelled out by Montreal in the 24th minute. Again the Red Bulls took the lead in the 44th minute on a goal from Chris Bermudez, only to be tied by the Impact in the 56th minute.


JP Marin scored and Evan Peters provided the game-winner in the 80th minute to earn the U-16s their fifth win this spring. The Red Bulls U-16s are 14-1-4 overall, and stand in first place of the Atlantic Division.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (4) vs. Met Oval (0)

HANOVER, N.J. (April 23, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-14s defeated Met Oval at the Red Bulls Training Facility on Saturday, 4-0.


New York scored in the 19th minute to take the lead after some early pressure. Forward Alex Quezada tapped the ball into an empty goal from 12-yards out after Dylan Sullivan made a great run from midfield, beating two players and drawing out the Met Oval goalkeeper.


However, a defensive turnover in the 20th minute almost saw Met Oval equalize. Goalkeeper Alex Bobocea made a tremendous foot save as the Met Oval forward went in on a one-on-one situation.


In the 26th minute, forward Scotty Taylor almost got the second goal of the game. Taylor curled a right-footed free kick from 20-yards out that was headed for the top corner, but the Met Oval goalkeeper saved brilliantly over the bar.


The score was doubled in the 39th minute when midfielder Danny Ramm blasted an indirect free kick from 15-yards out past the Met Oval goalkeeper. Taylor tapped the ball to Ramm, who drilled his shot into the lower left hand corner of the goal.


Taylor then scored his team leading 20th goal of the season. In the 50th minute, Sullivan crossed from the endline after a give-and-go with defender Samory Powder and Taylor finished from 12-yards out. Defender Jonathan Ned closed out the scoring in the final seconds of the game when he was at the back post to volley a Peter Stroud free kick into the goal.

LINCROFT, N.J. (April 23, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-12 Blue won on the road against NJCSA on Saturday, 10-1. 


The Red Bulls started off the first half netting five goals, and created even more chances to score. In the second half the Red Bulls would add five more goals to secure the road victory.

New York Red Bulls U-12 - White (4) vs. NJCSA - White (2)

LINCROFT, N.J. (April 23, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-12 Blue won on the road in a physical match against NJCSA on Saturday, 4-2. 


The Red Bulls started off by dominating possession and scored in the 9th minute. However, NJCSA managed to take the lead from two quick goals against the run of play. 


The Red Bulls re-gained control of the game, creating many chances to score and eventually found the net three more time to secure the comeback and win the match.
