D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls met in their first Atlantic Cup game of the 2016 season on Friday, with D.C. winning 2-0 at RFK Stadium.


The hosts opened the scoring 20 minutes in, as Patrick Nyarko set up Marcelo Sarvas with a perfect throughball into the box to the Brazilian. Sarvas then sent a low cross through the box to Alvaro Saborio, who tapped it into an open net.


Notes: 

  • The New York Red Bulls lost 2-0 to D.C. United Friday evening at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The loss snapped New York's season-best three-game unbeaten streak (two wins, one tie) entering the match.
  • New York was unbeaten in four straight regular season matches against D.C. United (3-0-1), a streak that began on September 10, 2014, prior to tonight's loss. New York has only gone unbeaten for five consecutive regular season games against their Atlantic Cup rivals once in franchise history, from June 24, 2012 to Aug 21, 2013 (3-0-2).
  • New York is 25-34-10 all-time vs. D.C. United, including a 10-21-5 mark at RFK Stadium.
  • New York is 41-40-20 all-time in the month of May. The Red Bulls have scored 149 goals in May all-time and have conceded 149 goals during the month.
  • Prior to tonight, New York posted clean sheets in four of the previous five MLS matches vs. D.C. United.
