Harrison NJ: The New York Red Bulls will continue their 2016 season this weekend with a Sunday evening matchup against the Portland Timbers.


The match will kick off at 6:00pm on Sunday July 10th at Red Bull Arena with national coverage on ESPN2 and the Red Bulls Radio Network on TuneIn.


The Red Bulls are coming off a great win midweek against Club America in a friendly between the two clubs. Dan Metzger and Shuan Wright-Phillips both scored in the Red Bulls 2-0 of the Liga MX side.


In their most recent league match earlier in the week, the Red Bulls took on rivals New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. The match ended in a 2-0 loss for the Red Bulls; their first ever loss against NYCFC.


This Sunday the Red Bulls will welcome defending MLS Cup champions the Portland Timbers to Red Bull Arena. Portland is currently in 7th place in Western Conference with a 6-6-6 record overall. New York is currently sitting in 4th place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-9-2 overall record.


The Red Bulls’ will be looking to continue their impressive home record of 6-2-0 at Red Bull Arena this season. The Timbers away record is 0-4-5 this season. This will be the teams’ first and only matchup this year.


After Sunday’s match, the Red Bulls will host Orlando City at Red Bull Arena in a midweek matchup. The match will kick off at 7:30 pm on Wednesday July 13th with coverage on MSG and the Red Bulls Radio Network on TuneIn. 


NOTES

  • The Red Bulls saw their winless run extended to three games – all away from Red Bull Arena – in their first loss ever to cross-river rivals New York City FC, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
  • The Timbers extended their undefeated run to six games – alternating wins and draws over the span – after reaching a goalless result with the Colorado Rapids on Monday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
  • The Red Bulls won the lone meeting between the teams a year ago, a 2-0 win Sept. 20 at Providence Park, the second consecutive year the road team has won the only meeting. The Timbers won 2-1 on May 24, 2014 at Red Bull Arena, their first win ever in Harrison in three visits.
  • The Red Bulls have come away with points on three visits lifetime to Portland, reaching a pair of 3-3 draws before last year’s meeting, in 2011 and 2013.
