HARRISON, N.J. (July 10, 2016) - The New York Red Bulls played to a 0-0 draw with the Portland Timbers on Sunday night at Red Bull Arena. New York is undefeated in its last six home games, and has five shutouts in that stretch.
New York had several quality scoring chances, including a free kick from Felipe in the 17th minute that cleared the wall and dipped on-frame, but was pushed away by Portland's Jake Gleeson. New York would force Gleeson into four solid saves in the match.
Gonzalo Veron earned his fourth start of the season, and first since June 22 in Salt Lake. Veron started on the right wing, in the spot vacated by Lloyd Sam, who was traded to D.C. United on Thursday.
Red Bulls defender Damien Perrinelle saw his first MLS game action since November 2015 in the match, replacing an injured Gideon Baah in the 22nd minute. Perrinelle has not played in MLS since suffering a knee injury in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. He made two rehab starts with New York Red Bulls II in the United Soccer League, and saw his first action with the first team on Wednesday in a friendly against Club America.
Luis Robles made four saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Robles started and played a full 90 minutes for the 125th consecutive regular season game. He is now tied with Tony Meola for the most games played as a goalkeeper in franchise history.
New York has tied just three games this season, fewest in MLS. The Red Bulls have nine ties since Jesse Marsch took over before the 2015 season.
The Red Bulls remain home for a quick turnaround, hosting Orlando City SC on Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30, with coverage on MSG, MSG GO and Red Bulls Radio.
