CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 16, 2016) - New York Red Bulls II defeated Charlotte Independence on the road, 2-1. Stefano Bonomo scored early and Dan Metzger provided the game-winning goal in the 64th minute after Charlotte was reduced to 10-men.

The win improves NYRB II to 11-1-5 on the season. New York currently stands in second place of the Eastern Conference, just one point behind Louisville City FC and with a game in hand.

Red Bulls II extended its undefeated streak to 11 games, and is 8-0-3 on its current run. They also remained unbeaten on the road, improving to 7-0-1 away from home. The club has not lost a game since May 1 in their first matchup against Charlotte at Red Bull Arena.

New York opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Florian Valot's cross connected with the head of Bonomo, who nodded in his third goal of the season.

Charlotte tied the game in the 49th minute, thanks to Jun Davidson on a counter attack.

Brian Brown, who assisted the Independence's goal, was sent off in the 60th minute for a challenge on Junior Flemmings, reducing the home side to 10-men for the remainder of the match.

New York wasted no time taking advantage, finding the go-ahead goal four minutes later off of a corner kick. Vincent Bezecourt whipped in the corner, which was flicked on by Tim Schmoll to Metzger. The midfielder took one touch and fired his shot into the side netting to restore New York's lead.

Aaron Long, who started the match at center back and exited the match at halftime, was issued a red card on the bench in the 87th minute and will miss New York's next match on Wednesday.

The victory was Red Bulls II's first all-time win against the Independence, moving to 1-1-2 in four USL competitions.

Red Bulls II completes its three-game road trip on Wednesday, July 20 against FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium. New York next returns home on Saturday, July 23 against Charleston Battery at 4 p.m.
