NYRB II defeats FC Cincinnati, 2-0 for fifth straight win

HARRISON, N.J. (August 28, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II earned a 2-0 victory over FC Cincinnati on Sunday evening at Red Bull Arena. Brandon Allen and Derrick Etienne Jr. both scored on penalty kicks.  


NYRB II improves to 17-3-5 on the season, and remains six points ahead of the rest of the league after winning five straight matches by a combined scored of 14-1.


NYRB II leads USL in goals scored (48) and goal differential (+30).


Allen got the game-winner in the 15th minute, converting an early PK that was reviewed and confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee.  It was the Homegrown forward’s 12th of the season.


The play also resulted in a red card to FC Cincinnati ‘keeper Mitch Hildebrandt for denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.


NYRB II was unable to break through with the man-advantage until Etienne Jr. was taken down inside the box in the 90th minute. The Homegrown midfielder stepped to the spot and converted for his third of the season.


Ryan Meara recorded the shutout with one save. NYRB II has kept 14 clean sheets in 25 games this season.


NYRB II is on the road next weekend to face Bethlehem Steel FC on Sunday, September 4 for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
