The New York Red Bulls earned a 1-0 win over Whitecaps FC on Saturday night in Vancouver behind Bradley Wright-Phillips’ 17th goal of the year.
New York is undefeated in 10 consecutive matches. The Red Bulls are now 12-9-7 on the season and sit in second place in the East, one point behind New York City FC. It was New York’s second road win this season.
Wright-Phillips found the game-winner in the 50th minute, causing a turnover inside the penalty area and burying the chance. Wright-Phillips’ 17th of the year tied him with David Villa for the league lead.
Wright-Phillips also ties a league record for most goals scored over three seasons, with his 61st goal since the start of 2014. BWP tied Chris Wondolowski for the most productive three-season span in MLS history.
Dax McCarty saw his first game action since July 31, starting and played 75 minutes. He made his 159th career start, the most in New York franchise history.
Luis Robles did not have to make a save to record his league-leading ninth shutout of the season. Robles continued to add to his franchise records for wins (62) and shutouts (37).
