HARRISON, N.J. (September 16, 2016) - The New York Red Bulls head north this weekend to take on Toronto FC at BMO Field at 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. New York will look to extend its unbeaten streak to twelve MLS games in a matchup of the Eastern Conference's top two teams.
FOX will broadcast the match in the New York area and in select cities around the country. The match will also air nationally on Fox Deportes. Similar to FOX's process with regional NFL broadcasts, market assignments for the network's coverage of the September 18 MLS matches will be made public at a later date. When market assignments are announced, MLSsoccer.com will provide a complete overview of the coverage.
Red Bulls Radio kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon. Harmon will call the action in English while Ernesto Motta provides Spanish play-by-play beginning at 5 p.m.
The Red Bulls improved to 12-9-8 with a 2-2 draw last Sunday against D.C. United. The Red Bulls sit tied on points for second place in the East entering the weekend, ahead of New York City FC on tiebreakers, and trailing Toronto by two points.
Last weekend, Gonzalo Veron opened the scoring in the 35th minute, and Bradley Wright-Phillips doubled the advantage on the other side of half time, on an assist from Daniel Royer.
Wright-Phillips now has 18 goals this season, leading MLS. Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC is in third place in the Golden Boot standings with 16 goals. BWP has scored in five straight, tying his MLS career-long scoring streak, set back in the 2014 season.
Sacha Kljestan scored a late winner for the Red Bulls on Thursday night at Red Bull Arena in a Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Match. The Red Bulls sit atop group F with seven points from three games.
Kljestan also has five goals in MLS and leads the league with 15 assists on the season.
Toronto enters at 13-8-7, and 3-1-1 in their last five. Toronto's defense has been in fine form, as they haven't allowed two or more goals in their last nine games.
New York is 12-7-5 all-time against Toronto. As part of the undefeated run, New York is unbeaten in its last five road matches, most recently earning a 1-0 win at Vancouver on September 3.
After Sunday, the Red Bulls return home to face the Montreal Impact on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Antigua, Guatemala for the final Champions League group stage game against Antigua GFC on September 27.
