  • The New York Red Bulls closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday afternoon, finishing as the top team in the Eastern Conference for the second-straight season, and third time in the last four years.
  • New York ends the regular season with a 16-9-9 record after going 15-3-9 following a 1-6-0 start. New York finished on a 16-game unbeaten run, the third-longest undefeated streak in MLS history. Only FC Dallas (19), Columbus Crew (19) and Real Salt Lake (18) have longer streaks to their name.
  • New York finishes with the best home record in MLS (13-2-2) and with the best goal differential (+17).
  • Bradley Wright-Phillips won the MLS Golden Boot for the second time in three seasons, finishing with 24 goals after getting his league-leading seventh game-winning goal against Philadelphia. Wright-Phillips accomplished the feat without any goals from the penalty spot, the first player to win the Golden Boot without a PK since Luciano Emílio accomplished the feat with D.C. United in 2007.
  • BWP set a new MLS record for most goals scored over three consecutive seasons (68 goals, 2014-2016) and is the only player in MLS history to record multiple seasons with 20 or more goals.
  • BWP collected a long pass from Aurelien Collin and coolly chipped goalkeeper Andre Blake in the 26th minute.
  • The assist was Collin's second in as many games, his first two points as a Red Bull.
  • Alex Muyl scored New York's second goal from the top of the six yard box, finishing a play that was set up by a Dax McCarty backheel pass and a short, low cross from Sacha Kljestan. No assists were awarded on the play, as Kljestan's pass deflected off of a defender and into the path of Muyl.
  • Muyl finishes his rookie season with two goals and six assists.
  • Sacha Kljestan finishes his second season in New York as the top assist man in the league, with 19 this season. Kljestan laid claim to the franchise single-season record, breaking the previous mark of 14 (Eduardo Hurtado, Thierry Henry), which he tied last year.
  • Dax McCarty finishes his sixth season as a Red Bull tied with Mike Petke for most MLS regular season appearances in club history. McCarty made his 169th league appearance in a Red Bulls shirt on Sunday. He is also the record holder for starts and minutes played.
  • Luis Robles went a full 90 minutes for the 140th consecutive regular season game. Robles made five saves to add to his franchise records for career wins (66) and shutouts (39). Robles' 11 clean sheets this season are the most in MLS.
  • By virtue of securing a top-two finish in the East, New York bypasses the midweek knockout round, and awaits its opponent for the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoff Eastern Conference Semifinals. New York will play at the lowest remaining seed next Sunday, October 30, and host the second leg on Sunday, November 6. New York's possible oppontents are the Union, Montreal Impact, and D.C. United. Kick times and broadcast info is still TBD.
