Five Things Bradley Wright-Phillips Said at Final Media Day

On Thursday, November 10, Bradley Wright-Phillips addressed the media for the final time following the completion of the Red Bulls’ 2016 season. Here’s what the 2016 Golden Boot Winner and MLS MVP nominee had to say:

  • The striker shrugged off his individual awards and achievements, pointing out, “where did it get us – we’re here now before the MLS Cup is over.”
  • Wright-Phillips rued missed chances in the playoffs and shouldered the blame, saying, “if I had scored in the first leg and maybe one more chance in the second leg it might have been different.”
  • He expressed confidence in the team’s style of play, choosing to rather look at individual plays that didn’t go their way, which led to their eventual playoff demise.
  • On his approach to preparing for Champions League in February: “Once a few weeks, maybe a month has gone by, of the offseason and just clearing the mind, it’s right back to work.”
  • When asked about playing with his brother, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bradley expressed his gratitude to Red Bull for the opportunity and admitted; “it’s been amazing, just getting to train with him everyday…it’s been brilliant.”
