MSG 1-on-1 with Jesse Marsch: Gonzalo Veron's Future

Jesse Marsch preached patience with Gonzalo Veron and believes there's big things in his future with the New York Red Bulls.

"Gonzalo, in many ways because of his explosiveness, his ability to be an option on the move and his explosiveness with the ball, fits the way we play," Marsch said in a 1-on-1 interview with Shep Messing for MSG. "Now it’s just been about really integrating him and helping him understand fully what all of the little details and responsibilities are within the team."

The head coach said that Veron is often unfairly singled out because he's a Designated Player.

"The first conversation I had with him when he came was, 'Listen, we treat all of our players the same, the expectations of all of our players are the same.'" Marsch said. "It’s to meet the standards of who we are as a team and not what your stature is or what your paycheck is or any of that. It’s how you fit within what we are as a group and I think that Gonzalo has gotten so much better at that every day."

Over the season, Veron progressed, according to Marsch.

"Toward the end of the year, I really thought that you saw him come alive and be a really important player," Marsch said. "I think that we’re going to continue to see that grow upon itself.

"I expect him to play an even bigger role and make a bigger impact."
