Marsch Preparing Team For Battle In Vancouver

Jesse Marsch Training 022717

Head Coach Jesse Marsch knows that the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League will be a battle.

“Whichever way it goes, it’s going to be tight,” Marsch said after training on Monday.

Marsch and the New York Red Bulls head to Vancouver after a 1-1 draw with the Whitecaps in Leg 1. Marsch said his team has been training hard all week and will go into the second game with the same mentality they would have had, no matter what.

“We have to go there and score goals. We were prepared to do that anyway,” the head coach said. “Our group has trained really well this week and we’re really looking forward to this match.”

As for his team, Marsch said that everyone will be available if called upon, including Kemar Lawrence, who was suspended for yellow card accumulation in Leg 1.

After the first game, with the Red Bulls playing in the 4-2-2-2, Marsch said he liked what he saw, but they’re still working on that formation.

“We like the way it operates,” he said. “Still a long way to go before it’s being employed at its top effectiveness, but so far I’ve been pretty happy with how things have worked.
