INSIDE THE 18: Red Bulls II Set for Open Cup Showdown

The New York Red Bulls II are entering play in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Hudson Valley Hammers of USL League Two.

The MLS NEXT Pro side are competing in the competition this season for the club.

Aidan Stokes starts for Red Bulls II in net, with Omar Valencia, Davi Alexandre, Juan Gutierrez and Copeland Berkley getting the nod along the backline. Stokes and Alexandre are Homegrown players, while Berkley is a Red Bulls Academy player.

This will be the first time that New York Red Bulls II have competed in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup since 2015 when they matched up against Jersey Express Soccer Club in the second round.

Aiden Jarvis and Bento Estrela start in the central midfield, with Steve Sserwadda, Ibrahim Kasule and Dylan Sullivan pushing the attack. Jarvis is an Academy player, while Estrela is a first team Homegrown signing.

Coming off their first match this season in MLS NEXT Pro just two days ago, Red Bulls II are coming off a 2-0 victory with goals scored by Wiki Carmona and Roald Mitchell. Kasule assisted both goals.

Mohammed Sofo starts up top for New York.

On the bench for Head Coach Ibrahim Sekgaya is Juan Mina, Adri Mehmeti, Jeffrey Bryjak, Rafael Mosquera, Frank Ssebufu, Malick Dembele and Alan Rutkowski. Mina is a first team player loaned to RBII. Mehmeti, Bryjak and Rutkowski are Red Bulls Academy players.

Hudson Valley will be playing in their first ever Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match since being established in part by former New York Red Bulls product and United States Men’s National Team Captain Tyler Adams in 2020. Adams competed and played a full 90 minutes in the 2015 Open Cup match against Jersey Express for New York Red Bulls II.
