MATCH RECAP: Red Bull New York II Earn a Point on the Road via a 4-5 Penalty Kick Shootout Loss to NYCFC II at Belson Stadium

Red Bull New York II (2-0-1, 7 pts.) earn a point on the road against  NYCFC II (0-0-2, 3 pts), via a 1-1 draw and 4-5 penalty kick shootout loss on Sunday night at Belson Stadium.

NYCFC II opened the scoring in the fifth minute when midfielder Maximo Carrizo won a ball off a Red Bulls II defender and played a ball through to forward Seymour Reid who placed a shot into the bottom left corner. 

RBNY II equalized in the 21st minute. Midfielder Nate Worth played a ball toward the top of the box to midfielder Rafael Mosquera who took two dribbles inside and laced a left footed shot into the top left corner of the net.

Goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk made a huge save in the 87th minute, denying a one-on-one opportunity from Reid to keep the score level. 

The match moved to a six round-penalty kick shootout. Forward Mijahir Jimenez, Mosquera, midfielder Dennis Nelich, and defender Juan Mina converted their attempts while Worth and midfielder Paul Sokoloff had their shots saved. Szewczyk made one penalty kick save as the side fell 4-5 in the shootout.

Mosquera scored his second goal of the season and his 17th across all competitions with RBNY II. 

With his seventh goal across all competitions Mosquera is tied for Omar Sowe and Junior Flemmings for seventh-most goals scored across all competitions in club history.

The midfielder has four goals in his last three appearances across all competitions for Red Bulls II. 

The Panama, City Panama native has seven goal contributions in his last five appearances for New York across all competitions. 

Mosquera recorded his third career goal against NYCFC II and has five career goal contributions against the side to move to the most career goal contributions against New York City on the current roster.

Worth tallied his first assist of the season and his seventh across all competitions with RBNY II. 

With the draw, New York are unbeaten in their first three matches of a regular season for the fifth time in club history. 

Red Bulls II have gone unbeaten through the first three matches of the MLS NEXT Pro season the past three seasons. The club has never gone undefeated in their first three matches in three consecutive seasons in franchise history.
