Red Bulls II August Preview

New York Red Bulls II will six matches in the month of August, all coming against Eastern Conference opponents. The club will start the month with three-straight matches at home before two key road trips. It will conclude the month with a midweek clash.

Wednesday, August 3 – Memphis 901 FC (MSU Soccer Park, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

New York will kick off its six-match slate with a clash against Memphis 901 FC. The two sides will meet for the first time this season and only the fourth time in their history, with the all-time series tied 1-1-1. Memphis took the last meeting, 3-0, in September of 2021 behind a brace from Kyle Murphy. This season, Memphis ranks fourth in the Eastern Conference, and have one of the premier goal scorers this season in Phillip Goodrum. Defensively, they have allowed the fourth-fewest goals across the league (20).

Tuesday, August 9 – Atlanta United 2 (MSU Soccer Park, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

Atlanta United 2 will look to avenge its loss to Red Bulls II on March 16, a match in which New York held Atlanta without a shot on target. Coming into August, Atlanta sits 11th in the Eastern Conference table with wins against the Charleston Battery, Hartford Athletic, and Loudoun United FC. Goalkeeper Justin Garces ranks fifth in USL Championship with 56 saves on the campaign. New York leads the all-time series 4-2-0, outscoring Atlanta 22-11.

Friday, August 12 – Charleston Battery (MSU Soccer Park, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

Red Bulls II will conclude its season-long homestand with a match against the Charleston Battery. The match will mark the 17th all-time meeting between the clubs, including the postseason. New York leads the all-time series 6-2-8, outscoring Charleston 33-24. This season, Charleston ranks 13th in the Eastern Conference under Conor Casey, who is in his first season as Head Coach. Augustine Williams leads the way for Charleston with 11 goals, which ranks seventh in USL Championship.

Saturday, August 20 – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (Highmark Stadium, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

The two clubs will meet for the 19th time in their history as Red Bulls II will look to avenge its 3-0 defeat against Pittsburgh on July 1. The Riverhounds are unbeaten in their last six matches and have surged up to third in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh is currently unbeaten at home this season (8-0-1) and have not lost at Highmark Stadium since August 11, 2021, against Miami FC.

Saturday, August 28 – Birmingham Legion FC (Protective Stadium, 5:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

Following its trip to Highmark Stadium, New York will hit the road again and face Birmingham Legion FC. The two sides met on May 27 at MSU Soccer Park, with Birmingham taking the three points by a score of 2-1. Birmingham won four of its last five matches entering the month of August, outscoring opponents 11-3 during that span. Defensively, they are one of the better teams in USL Championship having tallied nine clean sheets on the season while allowing 20 goals. The match will mark the first-ever meeting between the sides at Protective Stadium.

Wednesday, August 31 – Hartford Athletic (MSU Soccer Park, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

Red Bulls II will conclude the month of August with a home match against local rival Hartford Athletic. New York will look to avenge its loss to Hartford at Dillon Stadium on May 14, a 3-2 thriller. The match will be the 12th between the two sides, with Hartford holding a 7-3-1 edge. New York defeated Hartford, 2-0, the last time the clubs met at MSU Soccer Park on September 4, 2021. Red Bulls II held Hartford without a shot on target in the match.
