Wolyniec Looks Ahead to Clash with Louisville

This weekend, New York Red Bulls II hit the road to rebound from their three-game skid as they take on Louisville City FC. Following last weekend’s match against the Fury, Head Coach John Wolyniec commented on the challenge ahead for his squad.

“We always play well against them,” Wolyniec said. “They always give us a hard challenge. All the games we’ve played against them have been really good games, really good tactical games. A lot thrown into it by both sides, so hopefully we’re ready. You have to be a little concerned after a week that wasn’t good, but like I said playing in front of fans in a tough place to play hopefully we can just muster up the ability to go after a game that’s going to be a tough challenge.”

The match also serves as a rematch of the two previous USL Eastern Conference Finals; 2016’s clash saw NYRB II advance past Louisville, 4-3, on penalties on their way to the league title, while last year’s semi-final saw Louisville advance by the same margin on penalties. While last season’s league champions currently sit third in the Eastern Conference, Wolyniec sees added value in the match for his players.

“Those are the games that we see the most value in,” Wolyniec said. “Games that we can really gain from, learn, develop in because they’re hard. Louisville is a good team, they have a good coach, they have good players, but we seem to play up to our opponents, so hopefully that’s the case this weekend.”

In need of their first road win and aiming to solidify a spot in the playoff race, NYRB II take on Louisville at Louisville Slugger Field, where Red Bulls II will look for a tad bit of revenge, this Saturday, June 30th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
