2025 MLS NEXT Flex Recap

HARRISON, N.J (May 17, 2025) – Red Bulls Academy U-15, U-16, and U-18 sides competed in the 2025 MLS NEXT Flex from May 9 to May 13 at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland.

The U-15s had a strong showing in Group P winning all three matches and scoring 14 goals and only conceding one. They opened play with a 6-0 win over Atletico Santa Rosa, then New York defeated Chula Vista FC 7-1 on Day 2. The U-15s wrapped up group play with a crucial 1-0 victory against Nashville SC.

The U-16s went unbeaten in Group E. They opened the competition with a 5-1 victory over Weston FC. On Day 2, New York got into a seven-goal thriller 4-3 win against Intercontinental Football Academy of New England. They completed group play with a 11:10 penalty kick shootout win over Real Salt Lake.

The U-18s finished second in Group E. On Day 1, they earned a convincing 5-0 win over City SC San Diego. Afte,r the group lost 2-0 to Miami Futbol Academy Rush. On Day 3 they fought Real Salt Lake to a 2-2 draw and fell 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout.

By finishing at the top of their respective groups, the U-15s and U-16s qualified for the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs that’ll take place in Nashville, Tennessee at the Richard Siegal Soccer Complex from June 14 to June 22.

Notable Performances

Paul Sokoloff scored a brace and the game winning goal in a 4-3 victory over Intercontinental Football Academy of New England.

Gil De Souza scored opening two goals in 5-0 win over City SC San Diego.

David Rutkowski and Arseniy Kopytchak combine for four goals against Chula Vista FC.

Eric Lodge recorded brace against Weston FC.
