Shield Race Finale
The Red Bulls’ chase for the 2018 Supporters’ Shield will come to a close this weekend, as its winner will be decided on the final day of the regular season. The team currently sits one point out of first place, with Atlanta (69 pts) traveling to Toronto for their final game.
New York has won both of its Supporters’ Shields within the past five seasons (2013, 2015).
Dominance at Home
New York has won 13 of the 16 games played at Red Bull Arena this season, which tied the most that the franchise has won in a single season in its history.
Their 13 home wins ties them with D.C. United for the most in Major League Soccer in 2018.
The Return of Sacha
Orlando City midfielder Sacha Kljestan will play his first game at Red Bull Arena since being traded to Orlando in the offseason.
Kljestan played in 97 games over a three-year span for New York, scoring 16 goals and tallying 51 assists.
Robles’ Dominance
Last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Philadelphia was the 13th clean sheet of the season for Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles. Robles leads the league in goals-against average (1.00), and is tied with Atlanta’s Brad Guzan for wins (20) and Sporting Kansas City’s Tim Melia for shutouts (13).
Robles aims for his second career Goalkeeper of the Year Award, as he won in 2015 during New York’s Supporters’ Shield run.
Playoff Tune-Up
Sunday’s game marks the final regular season game of 2018 for the Red Bulls, who will enter in the postseason with a top-two seed and first round bye clinched.
Their next game will be November 4 at the stadium of their Eastern Conference Semifinals opponent, before returning home November 11 for the second leg of the Semifinals.
