It's been almost a full month since Tyler Adams last played a match for the New York Red Bulls, but after much needed rest, due to the team being cautious with his back spasms, as well as the international break, Adams is feeling fresh and ready to go the rest of the season.
"I’m feeling good," Adams said after training on Wednesday. "I think that now with that rest, its kind of helped me just recoup a little bit. It’s been nice to catch up on that, and obviously a little bit of back spasms and problems with my back, so its been good to catch up and now I feel fresh and ready to go for the rest of the season."
Not only did Adams miss two games with the Red Bulls, he also missed two friendly matches with the U.S. Men's National Team, which according to him was tough not being a part of, but understood that his health comes first.
"Obviously the game against Atlanta is one that you want to play in, but what a performance from the team on that day, San Jose as well," Adams said. "You can never take a National Team call-up for granted, but I think that my body kind of comes first and to try to push and play well with the Red Bulls so I can get called for the next game."
Since Adams went down, the Red Bull have been playing some of their best soccer before the international break, defeating both Atlanta United and the San Jose Earthquakes, but that doesn't mean Adams wasn't missed on the pitch.
"His energy and enthusiasm that he brings to the field in every way just always adds to what we’re doing, so it’s good to have him back on the field," Head Coach Chris Armas said. "His leadership on the field and his presence and his voice is impressive and commanding and it’s important for our team."
The next opportunity Adams will have to play will come down to a coaching and medical staff decision, as the club takes on the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, October 21, in Talen Energy Stadium, which Adams says he's ready for.
"I feel really good, so obviously it’s up to the coaching staff whether they’re going to play me or not, but I think that I’m ready to go," Adams said.
