Andrés Reyes: “I Want To Continue on That Same Path, and Be Another Colombian That Makes History in This Club”

The New York Red Bulls announced this week the signing of Under-23 Colombian center-back, Andrés Reyes. The Red Bulls’ new defender is excited to join the club and get to know our fanbase.

“I’ve arrived to contribute, to do my part, to trust in the work that we’ll be doing, myself and my team,” said Reyes. “We’ll give our best to provide the moments of joy that they [our fans] deserve.”

Reyes started off his career at Atlético Nacional, where he played 19 games.

“It was something very unexpected because when I arrived at Nacional from the academy, I never thought to make the jump so fast, I thought it was going to take me a little longer, but after I had the opportunity to practice with the first team, everything started moving forward little by little,” said Reyes. “It’s something gratifying for me to know that the effort, dedication and discipline that I maintained has me right now where I am.”

There at Nacional, Reyes worked alongside former RBNY Head Coach, Juan Carlos Osorio.

“It was something great too, to work with a coach that knows a lot about the game,” he said. “He’s studied a lot, so to have him as a coach, helped me grow a lot with my game and as a person. He definitely helped me a lot in my footballing career.”

Reyes, who once faced Cristian Cásseres Jr. in a U-20 South American Championship game in 2019, looks forward to providing his security to our team’s defensive backline.

“First of all, I’ll provide my security. The job of a center-back is to defend, to try not to concede goals, that’s the essential that I offer,” said Reyes. “What’s next is to give my all, sacrifice for the team each game, leave all no matter what. I will always give 100%, so we can achieve all the objectives that we want to complete.”

The Colombian center-back is aware of our club’s Colombian history and looks forward to following that same path.

“It’s something amazing,” said Reyes. “They left their mark in the game, and also here in this club. I want to continue on that same path, and be another Colombian that makes history in this club. That’s what I want to do.”
