Cahill to leave New York Red Bulls

HARRISON, NJ (February 2, 2015) -
The New York Red Bulls announced today that Australian midfielder Tim Cahill has left the club by mutual agreement.
Per league rules, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Cahill signed with New York as a designated player in July of 2012. The all-time leading goal scorer in Australian history played a pivotal role for his country as Australia won the Asian Cup on Saturday. In 2013, the former Everton star led the Red Bulls with 11 goals in 27 appearances. He was named team MVP and earned MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star selections. Cahill played a large role in the 2013 late season surge for the Supporter's Shield, scoring seven of his goals and adding two assists, in the final 11 games.
"This decision was not made lightly, and it is the result of many conversations between our staff, Tim, and his agent," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Ali Curtis. "After much deliberation, we have agreed that this decision is best for all involved. We thank Tim for his service to the organization. He positively impacted the growth of the beautiful game in the United States, MLS and for the Red Bulls. We are pleased that Tim will continue to be an ambassador for Red Bull moving forward."
