A familiar face in sport dropped by Harrison last Sunday, as former NFL linebacker Bart Scott and his two children took in a Red Bulls game at Red Bull Arena. They watched the Red Bulls warm up down by the field and didn’t miss a minute of the Red Bulls’ 1-1 comeback draw against Chivas USA. It was Scott’s first time at a soccer game and he was left impressed by the home of the Red Bulls.

The former Pro Bowler played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens (2002-09) and New York Jets (2009-12). Since retiring after the 2012 season, Scott was hired as an analyst for CBS Sports Networks. Scott will join CBS’ “The NFL Today” show for the 2014 season.

Scott’s daughter, Gisele, loves soccer and her favorite player is Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry, but Bart said he would be looking to root for a player who is more of an underdog. Perhaps he found his new favorite player in Peguy Luyindula after he scored the game-tying goal in the 94+ minute?

“Well of course she’s going to follow the star of the team, Thierry. I like to find an underdog, he’s the obvious choice, you know, but we want to find an underdog,” Scott said.
Although she is just five, Gisele already plays soccer and enjoys every playing at every position. Bart is hoping she will be the next great soccer star and talked about the importance of exercising and staying healthy.
“Well she’s five, so they play everything. They play a little bit of everything, but she’s so big and so tall and so fast, we’ll figure it out. Right now she’s just playing and having fun but I’m all about promoting healthy living and exercise,” explained Scott. “She’s very interested and she’s very good at it and hopefully we can have a little soccer star on our hands.”
For his first time at Red Bull Arena, Scott was amazed by everything about the Arena, from the hospitality to the well kept grass and plans to be back for more Red Bulls games this season with his family.
“This is my first soccer game,” Scott said. “This has been a tremendous experience, the hospitality’s been tremendous and I’m learning something new. I definitely want to meet with their grounds crew because to have this green of grass this time of year, they got to come over and give me some tips for my lawn as well!”
