Dan Metzger made his MLS debut in the Red Bulls’ comeback win against the New England Revolution, replacing Alex Muyl in the 93rd minute.

“It was definitely a rush,” Metzger said. “Didn’t get to play a lot, but I did what I could to help my team. I’m just glad to walk away with a win.”

The midfielder said Jesse Marsch’s instructions for him included helping Felipe in midfield, defending and to ‘look to the flanks.’

“Just help clean up anything loose,” Metzger said. “Get me someone to mark and it was basically just helping Felipe in the middle, and to defend. Get us forward and look to the flanks. Look to get Gonzalo up the field and get us out of pressure.”

Metzger, a product of the Red Bulls Academy and long-time NYRB II standout, is playing in his first season as a member of the MLS team.

Although Wednesday’s match marked his first MLS appearance, he first suited up for the Red Bulls in their 2015 International Champions Cup win against Chelsea FC, and scored in a 2016 friendly against Club America.

“Being full time with the first team in training and everything is definitely helping me transition, and gets me ready for hopefully more MLS games.”
