In his first match with the club, Emil Forsberg was tabbed to appear on the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for Week 1 and 2 of the season.

Forsberg, the team's captain, went the full 90 minutes for New York. The Swedish midfield completed 85% of his passes, had 75% accurate long balls, created three chances and posted a 0.54 xG + xA.

"We dominated the game," Forsberg said. "We had some good chances to score, but it's still not perfect. It was the first game of the season, but either way, I think we played a good game, we controlled it with Dante [Vanzeir] and Elias [Manoel] up front. We know we had good finishers and they had bad luck today, but we keep on going. We had a good game. We have to work on that, we have to work on our finishing to get that better, but I think in general we were the better team today."
