Four Red Bulls Riding Yellow Cards Heading Into New York Derby

Yellow Card

Four New York Red Bulls players are in yellow card danger heading into the New York Derby on Friday night at Red Bull Arena.

Bradley Wright-Phillips, Sacha Kljestan, Felipe and Sean Davis are all one yellow card away from a one-game suspension.

"It's not easy to go without getting a yellow card," Kljestan said following training on Wednesday. "We have talked about that if one of us gets a yellow card in the game, we can't be piling on and another guy getting one, then we're missing two or three guys in one game."

Kljestan said the four players will have to be tactical over the next handful of games, as the players have an opportunity to decrease their yellow card totals by going without an infraction.

According to MLS rules: "If a player receives a caution during the Regular Season that brings him within one caution of any of the suspension thresholds (e.g., 4 cautions, 7 cautions), he will be placed on “Warning.”  If a player is placed on “Warning” and appears in three (3) consecutive games without receiving a caution, being sent off or sanctioned by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for an infraction that occurs during one of the three (3) consecutive games, that player’s personal caution total will be reduced by one (1) caution.  A player may only benefit from the Good Behavior Incentive one time per season."

"I think everyone has to be just a little bit more mindful," Kljestan said. "No stupid yellows going forward."
