  • A Daniel Royer first-half goal helped the New York Red Bulls earn a 1-1 draw against Club Deportivo Olimpia in the first leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 on Thursday at Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.
  • With the away goal, New York currently holds the tie breaker if the Leg 2 match were to end in a scoreless draw.
  • Off a failed Olimpia clear in their defensive third, Bradley Wright-Phillips gained possession of a loose ball and curled in a long pass into the 18-yard box. Wright-Phillips pass was perfectly place for a streaking Daniel Royer, who flicked the pass with his head to the far post for the 1-0 lead.
  • A little over halfway through the second half, Olimpia drew a foul inside the box for a penalty kick opportunity in the 73rd minute. Brayan Moya was given the opportunity and finished to the left post for the equalizer.
  • Royer tallied his first career CONCACAF Champions League goal. He has now tallied a goal in four different competitions, raising his all competitions total to 17.
  • Wright-Phillips tallied his first career CONCACAF Champions League assist. He has now tallied an assist in four different competitions, raising his all competitions total to 20.
