The New York Red Bulls have signed midfielder Vincent Bezecourt to an MLS contract, the team announced on Friday.
Bezecourt, born in Aire-sur-l’Adour, France, began his American soccer career in college at St. Francis Brooklyn. He played two seasons for the Terriers, totaling 10 goals and nine assists in 38 games.
Following graduation, the Frenchman was brought into Red Bulls preseason camp on January 25, 2016. After training with the club for more than a month, he signed with New York Red Bulls II in March and enjoyed a very successful first season.
After overcoming an injury which sidelined him for two months, Bezecourt went on to play 18 games for NYRB II, totaling six goals and two assists in 760 USL minutes.
He earned USL Team of the Week honors after scoring three times and assisting on another over two games in mid-September, and helped the club earn its first USL Regular Season Championship with the best record in the league.
In the 2016 USL Playoffs, Bezecourt notched two goals and three assists in four games en route to winning the club’s first USL Cup.
This season, Bezecourt’s game has only progressed.
In 19 appearances, the midfielder leads USL in assists (8), chances created (45), and is second on the team in goals (6).
He’s been named to the USL Team of the Week on four occasions this season, and made his first appearance on the First Team roster in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals against the New England Revolution on the bench.
