GIACOMETTI: Gonzalo Veron hopes for speedy recovery after hamstring injury

HANOVER, N.J. – Following a stellar preseason camp, forward Gonzalo Veron suffered a bit of a setback in the team’s final friendly in Florida.

After netting a hat trick against the Jacksonville Armada, the Argentine was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury. And following training on Tuesday morning, head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that Veron would not have a part to play come March 6. However, there is a chance that speedy forward could make a quick recovery that would see him missing out on just one match.

“He’s going to miss the Toronto game, which is a bit of a bummer,” Marsch admitted. “He had such a good preseason, but we’re really hopeful and the thought is that we’ll be able to get him back for Montreal.”

The timing of his injury is certainly unfortunate, especially as his partnership with fellow Designated Player Bradley Wright-Phillips looked to be to be a dangerous combination throughout preseason. However, the Red Bulls still possess some quality depth within their squad, which gives Marsch both flexibility and confidence as the team gets set to kick off their 2016 season.

“We have most of the compliment of our guys,” Marsch added. “I think we know that we still have a talented team to put on the field. We’ll be ready to go after it.”
