HARRISON, N.J. (September 11, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls enter the half tied at two with the Chicago Fire in the highest-scoring first half New York has played in this season. New York battled back after allowing two early goals, with usual suspects Bradley Wright-Phillips and Mike Grella finding the back of the net for New York.
Chicago went ahead in the 14th minute when Jeff Larentowicz converted a penalty kick. The Fire was awarded a penalty when forward Kennedy Igboananike was taken down inside the box.
David Accam doubled the lead in the 26th minute, outrunning a defender to a loose ball and heading in alone on Luis Robles.
Bradley Wright-Phillips pulled one back for the home team in the 28th minute. The series started with a pass from Red Bulls midfielder Felipe to Sacha Kljestan. Kljestan was able to find a cutting Wright-Phillips, who struck a low ball by Chicago ‘keeper Sean Johnson.
The goal was Bradley Wright-Phillips 14th of the season, moving him into fifth place in the league.
Mike Grella tied the game in the38th minute, taking a pass from Lloyd Sam, turning and firing a shot that deflected out of the reach of Johnson.
The Red Bulls will look to buck some trends in the second half. New York is 1-3-5 when its opponent scores first, and 2-2-3 when tied at half time.
