INSIDE THE 18: Elias Manoel Looks to Stay Hot vs. Charlotte FC

Elias Manoel will start for the New York Red Bulls vs. Charlotte FC on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena. 

Elias has recorded three career goals in two appearances against Charlotte FC, including one in their first matchup of the year on March 25 at Bank of America Stadium. The last time New York faced Charlotte at Red Bull Arena, Manoel scored his first career multi-goal game. The Brazilian forward has scored one goal across all competitions this season.

He’ll be supported by Luquinhas, Cristian Cásseres Jr. and Wiki Carmona in the attack.

This will be the fourth overall regular season meeting between New York and Charlotte, with the series tied with a 1-1-1 mark. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last two matches against Charlotte FC in MLS play. 

Peter Stroud and Frankie Amaya will lock down the defensive midfield.

The first time the two clubs played this season was on March 25 at Bank of America Stadium, where the clubs battled to a 1-1 draw. Currently, Charlotte sits in 10th place with 22 points and are winless in their last three matches.

Kyle Duncan, Sean Nealis, Hassan Ndam and Cameron Harper start along the backline.

The Red Bulls have earned a result in eight of their last 10 MLS matches at Red Bull Arena.

Carlos Coronel starts in goal.

Coronel has registered 25 career shutout with the Red Bulls and has tied Tony Meola for second place in franchise history. Coronel's 1.02 goals against average ranks second all-time in league history for goalkeepers with a minimum of 4,500 minutes played.

Head Coach Troy Lesesne will have Matt Nocita, Omar Valencia, Dru Yearwood, Daniel Edelman, Omir Fernandez, Ronald Donkor, Dante Vanzeir and Tom Barlow available off the bench. Ryan Meara will serve as backup goalkeeper. Valencia joins on a short-term agreement from Red Bulls II.

Andrés Reyes will miss the match due to a red card, while John Tolkin and Cory Burke are away on international duty. Lewis Morgan, Serge Ngoma, Dylan Nealis, Steven Sserwadda will all miss the match due to injuries.
