INSIDE THE 18: John Tolkin Makes First Start of 2024

John Tolkin returns from injury and makes his first start of the 2024 MLS season and his first start under Head Coach Sandro Schwarz.

Tolkin is joined on the backline by Sean Nealis, Noah Eile and Dylan Nealis. Carlos Coronel starts in goal.

Coronel recorded his 31st career MLS shutout with the Red Bulls in the club’s 0-0 draw against Nashville SC on Sunday. Coronel has now posted 14 shutouts on the road in his MLS career. The Paraguayan goalkeeper has recorded three straight MLS regular season clean sheets.

Daniel Edelman and Frankie Amaya lock down the defensive midfield, with Emil Forsberg and Peter Stroud pushing the attack.

This will be the 28th overall meeting between New York and Houston, with the Red Bulls holding the advantage with a 12-6-9 mark.

Dante Vanzeir and Elias Manoel start up top for New York, looking to bag the first goal of the season for New York.

Off the bench, Schwarz will have Roald Mitchell, Lewis Morgan, Wiki Carmona, Mohammed Sofo, Ronald Donkor, Cameron Harper, Omar Valencia, Andrés Reyes and AJ Marcucci.

New York are currently on a five-match MLS regular season road unbeaten streak that dates back to September 16, 2023.

Ryan Meara, Cory Burke, Kyle Duncan, Serge Ngoma and Curtis Ofori will miss the match.
