INSIDE THE 18: Red Bulls, Monterrey Square Off in Cincy for Leagues Cup Phase One, Match Two

I18 - MTY 1 (1)

The New York Red Bulls and CF Monterrey will meet for the second match of Phase One of Leagues Cup on Sunday evening at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Head Coach Sandro Schwarz will again rotate the squad, with Emil Forsberg coming back into the Starting XI following his last-second heroics against Chivas de Guadalajara.

Forsberg scored the game-winning goal in New York’s 1-0 win over Chivas, which marked his first career Leagues Cup goal. In three matches outside of MLS regular season this year, Forsberg has scored two goals.

He has recorded seven goal contributions in his last seven appearances across all competitions.

Forsberg will be joined by Dennis Gjengaar, Serge Ngoma and Julian Hall in the attack.

This will be the first ever meeting between the Red Bulls and C.F. Monterrey.

Carlos Coronel is in goal for RBNY.

Daniel Edelman and Ronald Donkor pair in the central midfield.

New York have posted a 6-3-2 mark against Liga MX teams in franchise history, including coming off a 1-0 victory over Chivas Guadalajara on July 31 in their first match of the 2025 Leagues Cup.

Kyle Duncan, Noah Eile, Alexander Hack and Omar Valencia start along the back.
