INSIDE THE 18: Tom Barlow Up Top as Red Bulls Host NYCFC in U.S. Open Cup Derby

Tom Barlow starts for the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal matchup vs. New York City FC on Wednesday evening.

Barlow will be supported by Luquinhas and Lewis Morgan in the attack. Cristian Cásseres Jr. and Frankie Amaya lock down the defensive midfield.

This will be the third meeting in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup between the two clubs with the Red Bulls holding the advantage in the series, 2-0-0. The last time the clubs competed against each other in the Open Cup was on June 6, 2018, where the Red Bulls won 4-0. New York Captain Aaron Long recorded his first career Open Cup goal in the match.

Carlos Coronel starts in goal for New York, with Tom Edwards, Aaron Long, Sean Nealis, Dylan Nealis and John Tolkin ahead of him.

Coronel posted his fourth clean sheet of the season and his 17th career shutout with the Red Bulls. He moved into a tie for third place in franchise history with Jon Conway in shutouts. Coronel has made three career appearances against NYCFC and has recorded two shutouts against them. The Brazilian goalkeeper ranks tied for ninth in MLS in shutouts.

Off the bench, Head Coach Gerhard Struber will have Patryk Klimala, Omir Fernandez, Cameron Harper, Jason Pendant, Zach Ryan and Steven Sserwadda. Ryan Meara will serve as backup goalkeeper.
