New York Red Bulls II will host Sacramento Republic FC on Sunday, May 8. Kickoff at MSU Soccer Park is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ESPN+.
Cross-Country Trip – Sunday’s match will mark the first time Sacramento will play a match on the East Coast since the 2014 season. Last year’s meeting marked the first time New York traveled to the West Coast since 2018.
Club Connection – Former Red Bulls II forward Luther Archimède will make his first appearance at MSU Soccer Park as a member of an opposing team. He scored three goals and tallied an assist across 14 matches with New York during the 2021 USL Championship season.
Stellar Sam – Through the first two months of the season, Sam Williams was the youngest player in USL Championship to play eight matches. The Red Bulls Academy midfielder has had a stellar second season with Red Bulls II and is on pace to challenge many club academy player records.
“The way they press, that allow the first pass and then they’ll go for the second ball and then they’re just looking to get the fullbacks into wide areas. They’re looking for little rotations on crosses. In terms of us, just improving the high percentage chances just to give us an opportunity to score more goals.” – Head Coach Gary Lewis
“They are a very organized team, but I feel like in transition, they leave a little bit of space openings and they’re susceptible to crosses. We’ve been working on that a lot in practices, and I feel like I could possibly get a goal from that.” – Forward Jonathan Filipe
1 – A victory on Sunday will mark New York’s first-ever over a West Coast opponent. In three prior matches against West Coast teams, the club has a record of 0-2-1.
2 – Sunday’s match will mark the second time Red Bulls II will play a match on Mother’s Day, and the first since 2017 when the club hosted LA Galaxy II.
6 – If Sam Williams starts on Sunday, he will have equaled his total of six from last season, reaching that mark in half of his total appearances during 2021 (18).
