Jesse Marsch needed just one word -- three times -- to talk about Sean Davis' play against Orlando City SC on Saturday night.

"Outstanding. Outstanding. Outstanding," Marsch said.

Davis added the third and final goal of New York's 3-1 defeat of Eastern Conference rivals OCSC at Red Bull Arena.

On his goal, Davis said he saw an opening and before the pressure started to get too much, knew he had to shoot.

"I just tried to bend it outside of the post, like I practice all the time with [First Assistant Coach] Chris Armas," Davis said.

It was Davis' second goal of the MLS season, and fourth overall over 28 starts since 2015.

"Sean has covered ground, pressed well, counter-pressed well, battled in the midfield, slowed down for us, made great attacking plays, been dangerous around the goal," Marsch said about Davis' play of late. "Complete performances. Complete performances."

Davis, a Homegrown player from Holmdel, NJ, said that he knew how important this game was as the battle for playoff spots and positioning closes in.

"The East is extremely competitive this year," Davis said. "You need every point you can get and we knew that going into this game that three points would be huge, you know, going against Orlando who is a very good side and fighting for the playoffs."

The Red Bulls, recently deploying a new, flexible formation have seen Daniel Royer and Davis start to really break out as the season progresses.

"They have obviously been incredibly important players for us in the last couple months here," Marsch said of Royer and Davis. "Really happy for Sean. He's showing all the great qualities we know he has, and I think he's establishing himself at a really high level now."
