NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 24, 2012) - U.S. Under-23 forward Juan Agudelo has been diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his left knee following an MRI evaluation. Agudelo will return to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday to consult with team physicians on a treatment plan and a time frame for recovery.
Agudelo suffered the injury during the USA's 6-0 victory against Cuba on March 22 in their first group match of the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying tournament. Per tournament rules, no replacement player may be added to the roster.
Leading Group A with three points after one match, the U.S. faces Canada in the second match of 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast live on the Universal Sports Network, mun2 and CONCACAF.com.
