Kljestan Credits Red Bulls Play For National Team Call

Sacha Kljestan, called back to the United States Men's National Team for their upcoming friendlies, hopes strong showings could catapult him into the Starting XI for bigger games come November.

The Red Bulls' midfielder credits his recent play with New York for getting him another look with the national team.

“I think that’s a big reason why I’m here, because I’ve become a leader on my team and become an important player on the Red Bulls, and we’ve had a very good couple of seasons now,” Kljestan said to MLSSoccer.com on Monday. “You have your job at your club to make your team better, to be an impact player, and I think I’ve done that.”

Kljestan and the national team take on Cuba, in Havana, on Friday. They will then face New Zealand in D.C. on Oct. 11, before returning to club play.

Kljestan will return to the Red Bulls game action on Oct. 16 against Columbus Crew SC at Red Bull Arena.
