HARRISON, N.J. (August 4, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls are in Montreal on Wednesday for a midweek showdown with the Montreal Impact. Kickoff from Stade Saputo is set for 8 p.m. ET, with coverage on MSG beginning at 7:30.

The match will be a homecoming of sorts for several Red Bulls. Current Red Bulls head man Jesse Marsch served as the first head coach of the Impact, going 12-16-6. Center back Karl Ouimette, who signed with New York ahead of 2015, is a Quebec native, and was the first Homegrown signing in Montreal Impact history. Red Bulls midfielder Felipe was recruited to MLS by Marsch for the Impact’s inaugural season. The Brazilian played three years in Montreal before joining Marsch in New York last winter.

The Red Bulls set out in search of their third-straight road win, coming off of wins at Orlando City and Philadelphia. New York, winners in five of their last six league games overall, now sit at 9-6-5 and have climbed back to second place in the Eastern Conference standings, with games in hand on the teams above and below them.

In its last outing, New York went to Philadelphia and took three points on the strength of three second half goals. Shaun Wright-Phillips made his debut and immediately had an impact on the game. Just minutes into his New York career the left winger earned a penalty that was converted by Sacha Kljestan. He then made a play to set up his brother, Bradley, for the game-winner. Anatole Abang added a third in stoppage time to complete the scoring.

Bradley Wright-Phillips continues to lead the team in goals with nine, and has a share of the team lead with six assists. Dax McCarty earned an assist on Abang’s goal, stretching his point streak to three games. McCarty has five assists in that span, and is now tied with Wright-Phillips for the team lead. The captain is just one off of his career high of seven, set in 2007, his sophomore campaign with FC Dallas.

Montreal enters as winners of two straight after a 3-2 road win over New York City FC. Midfielder Ignacio Piatti struck twice, including once from the penalty spot, to see his team to victory. Piatti leads the team with eight goals and four assists. Montreal is now 8-8-3, and holds the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

New York is 5-2-1 against Montreal, though most of the success has come at home. The Red Bulls are 4-0-0 against the Impact at Red Bull Arena, but just 1-2-1 in trips to Montreal.  New York is undefeated in its last four matches against the Impact, including three wins.
