The New York Red Bulls (7-12-10, 31 pts.) heads to Audi Field on Saturday, September 23 to battle D.C. United (9-12-9, 36 pts.) in the second leg of the Atlantic Cup. This will be the 88th overall regular season meeting between the New York and D.C. United, with the D.C. holding the advantage in the series with a 37-33-17 mark. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions against D.C. United, which includes two victories against their Atlantic Cup rivals this season. The last time New York faced off against D.C. United, defender John Tolkin scored a goal on a direct free kick in the 89th minute to lead New York to a 1-0 victory on Sunday, August 20 at Red Bull Arena. New York have won five of the last six Atlantic Cups against D.C. United.

The Red Bulls defense has held D.C. United scoreless in their last three matches against each other. New York has only allowed 80 shots on goal this year, which ranks the lowest in MLS and they have only surrendered 34 MLS goals, which is tied for the sixth lowest in MLS. The Red Bulls have held their opponents to less than 10 shots in 24 of their 29 matches this season, which is the most in MLS for a single season since Opta began collecting data of MLS in 2010.
