The New York Red Bulls (3-4-7, 16 pts.) host FC Cincinnati (9-1-3, 30 pts.) in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 23 at Red Bull Arena. This will be the 11th overall meeting between New York and Cincinnati, with the Red Bulls holding the advantage with a 4-3-3 mark. New York have posted a 1-1-3 record in their last five matches against FC Cincinnati across all competitions. Since 2010, the Red Bulls have recorded a 12-1-2 mark in U.S. Open Cup play at home, including a 10-0-2 record at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls are currently on a four-match unbeaten streak across all competitions and have posted three-straight victories at home. New York has only allowed 37 shots on goal in 14 matches played this season, which is the lowest in MLS. The Red Bulls also lead MLS in aerial duels won (332) and recoveries (946). 

Defender Andres Reyes scored the first goal in New York’s 2-1 win against CF Montreal on Saturday, May 20 at Red Bull Arena. Reyes scored his second MLS goal of the season and the fourth of his career. His two MLS goals ranks tied for third among active MLS defenders this season. Reyes leads MLS in interceptions with 38, second in recoveries with 111, and third in aerial duels won with 65.  

Following Tuesday’s match, New York heads on a two-match road stand, beginning with a battle against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, May 27 at Lumen Field.
