MATCH PREVIEW, pres. by Toyota: New York Face Off Against Philadelphia Union in U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals

The New York Red Bulls face off against the Philadelphia Union in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday, July 9 at Subaru Park.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.

Coverage on Paramount + begins at 7 p.m. ET. Joe Malfa will have primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Ricky Lopez-Espin. New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated begins at 6:30 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Toyota, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley.

This will be the 46th all-time meeting between the Red Bulls and the Union, with Philadelphia holding the advantage in the series with a 20-16-9 mark.

The Red Bulls have earned three results in their last four away trips to Subaru Park. Philadelphia have posted a career 3-0-2 mark in U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal matches in franchise history, while the Red Bulls have earned a 6-3-1 mark. New York have posted a 3-1-0 mark in their last four Open Cup road matches.

The Red Bulls will be seeking their first win against the Union since 2019.

Midfielder Mohammed Sofo has scored three goals in the U.S. Open Cup this season and he has recorded a goal in all four U.S. Open Cup matches he has played in his career.

Sofo has recorded six goal contributions in four career U.S. Open Cup matches. His eight goals across all competitions, currently ranks tied for second for the club this season.

Captain Emil Forsberg scored his first career U.S. Open Cup goal in New York’s Round of 16 match against FC Dallas. Forsberg has scored a goal in back-to-back matches, after scoring in New York’s 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes on July 5.
